4 ECO-LODGES TO TICK OFF YOUR TRAVEL BUCKET LIST

We all know a long-haul trip to some far-flung destination is no good for our carbon footprint, but what if there’s a way to make our dream hol a bit more eco-friendly? From off-setting your airmiles to packing your reusable water bottle, there are tons of sustainable travel choices and staying in an eco-hotel is definitely one of them. We make it easy with our run down of the best (and most Instagrammable) eco-resorts in the world right now. You can thank us later.

Inka Superior Rio1

Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica

What: A 5-star eco-hotel in one of the world’s most remote and extraordinary tropical environments.

Where: Deep within the Peruvian Amazon and close to our reforestation project. The highlight might even be the hotel transfer - the only way in to this resort is a spectacular 45-minute boat trip through the jungle.

Best for: All budding David Attenboroughs! A naturalist’s dream, the eco-resort also serves as a research centre and is home to an incredible 540 species of bird.

Eco creds: Winner of the National Geographic Traveler’s Best Practices Award for Sustainable Travel

QO Amsterdam hotel

What: A urban bolthole that proves sustainability can be seriously stylish.

Where: In Amsterdam’s Amstelkwartier – the city’s new ultra-modern hotspot.

Best for: A weekend of plush city living. Once you’re done Instagramming the striking triple-height lobby, suspended staircase and an elongated oval bar from all angles, you can head to the wellness centre for a holistic massage and mindfulness session.

Eco Creds: The hotel has a rooftop circular greenhouse growing fresh plant and fish produce for all their menus. And utilises innovative climate control where panels on the outside of the windows respond to time and climate.

The Brando

The Brando

What: The honeymoon destination of dreams. Luxuriate in your own secluded beach villa surrounded by tranquil white sands, turquoise sea and undisturbed tropical palms.

Where: The private island paradise of Tetiaroa in French Polynesia.

Best for: Celeb spotting. Founded by Marlon Brando in 1967, past guests include Leonardo DiCaprio, Barak Obama and Beyoncé.

Eco creds: Built with local, reclaimed materials, the resort is nearly carbon neutral and runs mostly on renewable energy sources like solar power and coconut oil biofuel.

Madulkelle Tea and Eco Lodge

What: Glamping at its finest. An old colonial tea plantation, at Madulkelle you’ll find 18 luxury tented lodges surrounded by breath-taking mountain views.

Where: Perched high among the rolling tea fields of central Sri Lanka.

Best for: Tea lovers looking to get off the grid. Spend your time sipping the local brew with a book or take in the incredible surrounding on a biking or hiking tour.

Eco creds: The hotel grows 60% of their food in the garden, supports local staff and their families through training and education and donates a percentage of profits to community development and conservation initiatives.
